Sheds on the sea? No a Sauna Shed on Penarth Marina

SaunaFlow Penarth 1

As many of you regular Sheddies know, Penarth isn’t just a lovely seaside town in the Vale of Glamorgan. It’s the spiritual home of the Shed of the Year competition and, of course, yours truly. I’m used to spotting impressive timber structures at the bottom of gardens (some of the biggest outbuildings I have seen outside of that London) or on allotments, but it seems the shed revolution is finally taking to the water right at my doorstep.

Sauna Shed on Penarth Marina

I’ve been reading about a new addition at Penarth Marina that has caught my interest. It’s called Sauna Flô, and while they are promoting it as Wales’s first floating sauna let’s be honest—it’s really a very high-spec, floating shed., but it looks fantastic.

This aquatic retreat is the brainchild of local entrepreneur Rory Heslop from Sully. He’s spent months looking along the coast to find the best spot for a bit of “Scandi-style” wellness

You’ll find it moored on the jetty behind the Goose on the Loose bar, right next to the Floating Hotel.

Sauna Shed on Penarth Marina

Unlike the typical workshop where the temperature is usually freezing until you get the heater going, this place is meant for serious heat

The idea is to relax in the sauna while looking out through panoramic windows at the boats bobbing by. Then, if you’re brave enough, you can plunge into the cold ice baths.

I usually prefer my structures on solid ground, I might just have to wander down to the Marina to check this out.
