Portable computing for the shed

Welcome Sheddie, this blog is about sheds! You can share your shed, or view other people's sheds. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed.

I am thinking of getting one of those Asus EE PC for writing in the shed and web browsing.

Asus EE PC

Have any of you sheddies got one, what do you think of it, any tips etc?

Also I would use it for reading books and the like one of those Amazon Kindle

but as I have to wait until it comes out over here in the UK, I think a ultra portable machine would do.

Artist repairs spiderwebs

This story on Boingboing about Artist Nina Katchadourian who tried repairing spider webs with thread, but her efforts were rebuffed: “My repairs were always rejected by the spider and discarded, usually during the course of the night, even in webs which looked abandoned.”

Of course all sheddies know that spiders and their webs are a sacred part of the shedworld. and should not be tampered with.

Just sheds : Scouthouse

A lovely American shed today from Scout and Matt from Portland, OR

it even has the computer generated image of what it should look like.

generated shed

All the windows were scored at bargain prices from different people on Craigslist, and we then designed the shed around them. The two of us built it by ourselves, from the ground up. Thirty feet down a path, painted to match the house, electric heat, second- hand laminate flooring, different colored windows on all four sides, fully insulated, rain barrel to collect roof runoff.

You think you have problems getting your shed up

Reader Pamela from Michigan U.S.A says

Here in DeWitt, Michigan U.S.A. we have a rule prohibiting sheds. Some people have built sheds and the homeowners association is suing them in court to make them take the sheds down. How pathetic is that?

Sheds were banned in this area near Lake Geneva in DeWitt, MI (not to be confused with a larger place called Lake Geneva in Wisconsin). The developeer who set the rules decided that there could only be two structures on each property–a house and attached garage. It makes no sense to me. Some people have their lawn care and gardening equipment in their garages and then park their cars in the driveway.

If only we hadn’t dumped that tea into Boston Harbor–we could all be British and we could all have sheds!

Do you have any issues or comments about rules and planning issues?

I set a webcam up to make a timelapse video while I built my first shed. It’s a pretty boring video, but whatever. Here’s the end result…

Lindisfarne sheds

I have seen the wonderful sheds on island of Lindisfarne only in photos but would love to see them close up.

The Holy Island is located off the Northumbrian coast, they are upturned boats who are no longer used as seagoing wossname but put to great use as sheds, what a wonderful retirement!

So many people have got them on flickr and they are great shots I thought I would put a few up here but you can do a search and find them all.

More beachhut madness

A beach hut in Gwynedd with views over Cardigan Bay is to be auctioned next week with a guide price of £70,000.

Beach hut

The detached hut, which is in the middle of a row, is on a sand dune at the highly-sought after location of Abersoch, on the Llyn Peninsula.

It is made of corrugated sheeting and wood and measures just 13ft (4m) by nine feet (2.7m).

One local businessman said he was not surprised and said house prices were “out of sync” with the rest of Wales.

According to the BBC

Update it sold for the price.

Beer of the future Green Brew & Bass

Adnams has launched what it claims is the UK’s first carbon-neutral beer.

Adnams says the bitter, East Green, has less than 1p worth of carbon emissions per bottle, which it has pledged to offset.

The beer is produced at a new “eco-friendly” brewery in Southwold, Suffolk, which recycles steam created during the brewing process and uses it to heat 90% of the following brew, a spokeswoman said.

But they don’t mention the strength or anything… if you see if around sheddies take a photo of the clip and add it to the Beer of the Week Group on Flickr.

Anyway my beer of the Week is Bass!

Bass

It’s an old favorite and was a lovely pint Ralph says “most of the time ” which I will agree with most of the time you will be lucky to get a good pint of it.

I had it at the Fox & Hounds in St. Brides Major, South Wales, a great little pub I have not been to for years.
