20 Years of Shed of the Year: When we were “In me Shed” with Punks not Dad
Looking back at 20 years of Shed of the year, I would be mad not have mentioned the “hit” song IN ME SHED, from Punks Not Dad, who were Official Punk band of Shed week all the way back in 2009
This video was also the first & last official anthem for Shed of the Year , a high-energy “Dad Punk” masterpiece titled In Me Shed by the Cardiff-based band Punks Not Dad.
The video was created to celebrate the sanctuary that every sheddie knows and loves .
The Band: Punks Not Dad
Formed in Cardiff in, 2008, Punks Not Dad are the pioneers of Dad Punk. The members-Sid Life Crisis (vocals), Joe Strimmer (bass), Johnny Cardigan (guitar),. Adrian Viles (drums)-write songs specifically about the trials and joys of middle-aged fatherhood . Their lyrics tackle “important” contemporary topics like the struggle of flat-pack furniture, the pain of “Man Flu,”. The necessity of having a space to call one’s own.
The Guest Star: Lisa Rogers
The video features a special introduction and appearance by TV presenter Lisa Rogers, best known for hosting Scrapheap Challenge . She was not locked in the shed really, she’s a friend of the band.

The Story of “In Me Shed”
The song is a battle cry for dads everywhere to “reclaim the seats” and find freedom away from the family . The video captures the quintessential sheddie lifestyle through a series of fast-paced cuts:
- The Sanctuary: It highlights the shed as the one place “where a dad can be free,” far from the demands of kids and domestic chores.
- Shed Activities: The lyrics and visuals celebrate traditional shed hobbies, including reading the paper, sorting jam jars, stirring old tins of paint, fixing bike punctures and having a nap
- Shed Items: Keep an eye out for the gear mentioned, from paraffin heaters and transistor radios to old leather sofas and “a nice bit of carpet.”
The video features, various sheddies “Singing” In Me shed.
For the visitors of Shedblog.co.uk, this video remains a cult favourite-a reminder that no matter how chaotic life gets, there’s always a place at the bottom of the garden where you can put your feet up. Have a brew (or homebrew) and be the master of all you survey
Follow-up Single : Can’t Get it up
Where are the Punk Not Dads now?

Joe Strimmer writes ‘We’re all still alive, and it’s hard to believe it’s been 17 years since the Dads hit the big time with the global smash hit ‘In Me Shed’, but the pressure of 3 gigs a year was just too much for Johnny Cardigan, and he retreated to his sofa in about 2013 claiming he had ‘Long Man Flu’. Then he said he’d sue us if we ever tried to carry on without him.
Sid Life-Crisis is still furious about it, and barely leaves his shed. To be honest he’s furious about most things these days – he’s currently trying to sue the BBC for the recent ‘Riot Women’ drama, which he insists is a direct rip off of the Punks Not Dad story, except they changed all the facts.
Nobody knows that Adrian Viles is up to as he still has an old Nokia phone and it doesn’t do whatsapp. I’ve heard rumours that there’s a Punks Not Dad greatest hits LP being released soon. We’re doing it on vinyl as we can’t read all that stupid little print on CD boxes.’
