Where are you sheddie?

Yesterday I sent out emails to all my sheddies.

Firstly to tell them about the 1 million hits but more importantly to ask them to update their details and maybe add some more images.

But had a lot of emails bounced, so I will have to remove those sheds from the site, to make things easier to manage :(
It’s a shame as some of them were blo*dy brilliant and will be missed from the site.

So if you are a sheddie that can’t find his/her shed, then contact me with your name of your shed and the email is was registered under.

also I have changed the search on the shedpage to just search the sheds and not the rest of the site.. lookout for Web 1.9 wossname soon

Welcome Sheddie, this blog is about sheds! You can share your shed, or view other people's sheds. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed.

1 million hits for readersheds!

I have recently moved hosts for readersheds (and this blog) and just looking at the inbuilt stats for readersheds.co.uk

For January this year we finally hit over 1million hits.

readersheds_hits_jan.jpg

Looks like February is looking to be a good month too (thanks b3ta)!

Thanks to all the sheddies and of course the Radio1 listeners that upped the number of visits.

Hits - A hit represents a request to your web site for a file such as an image, a web page, or a CGI script. One web page may contain several related resources, and as a result, a visitor viewing one web page may trigger several hits.

Not quite what I expected - but at least is not covered with CDCs

Last week I put a call out for sheds for this years Shed of the year.

One of the wossname that actually listened to my call was the fine fellows over at B3ta, if you are easily offended that maybe not worth clicking…

And the first entry for Shed of the Year from the b3tans, Is G’s shed.

Thanks to G and I hope he gets new shed soon.

disclaimer: I have been a memberon b3ta for 5 years 4months and 26 days, which means nothing as Iam not funny enough to post apart and just lurk, but my icon is a dalek, which is great dalek

The Sheds thay are a changing

The New URL for readersheds.co.uk is now www.readersheds.co.uk so please update your bookmarks etc.

There may be a few errors and 404’s but bear with me, and if in doubt go to the home page..

Look out for a new design and new Shed 2.0 features in the coming months.

Thanks for your support and Share your shed.

Shed down time

The main website www.readersheds.co.uk, Will be down on the weekend as I’m moving servers.

So I have disabled the share your shed feature and change your shed and add comments until the site is back up.

So please bear with me, while I carefully move the spiders to their new  home.

Readersheds.co.uk downtime

We are moving the server to a different side of the shed, too many spiderwebs and don’t want to remove them.

on 16-Nov-2007 01:00 AM (GMT)

the blog will still be working (hopefully), but readersheds.co.uk will be down around that time for a few hours, so if you want to share your shed or view the sheds, please be aware that you may not be able to do so :(
We will be back hopefully with a better server to handle all those complicated shed calculations.

“A social network about garden sheds”

After my post about google PR and Seo and other things.

I asked for some constructive wossname from this techie blog, blogstorm, which helps people get the most out of their traffic and so you can give the readers what they want!.

Patrick the guy who runs the site has given some good points that I will need to look on further and implement.

But one thing he pointed out, which of course being close to the site I would never have realised, is that Readersheds is a foreunner of Facebook and the like in terms thats it’s a social network website  but of course it’s specialised as it’s about garden sheds.

Of course I did not know anything about that sort of thing in late 2000 when I came up with the idea for sheddies putting pictures of their sheds up on the interweb and sharing them with the world, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

readersheds.co.uk - future?

I’am looking at a redesign on the main site readersheds.co.uk and your comments would be useful.

I know the adverts are a pain in the shed, but they pay for the server space and my beer, so they will stay for a while.

But as users of the site, what would you like to see on the site?

  • Would you like it to be more image led
  • Make it a bit more user friendly? how?
  • Would you want easier URLS so you could promote your shed?
  • Add those posh web2.0 features? (once i have read a book on it) and make it more social wossname?
  • Get rid of the old stuff
  • Run more competitions

I could just go off and make changes I think you would want, but your feedback is appreciated
