Huts on the Radio

Radio 4’s afternoon reading has Jennings’ Little Hut By Anthony Buckeridge

Mark Willams reads a five-part serialisation of one of Anthony Buckeridge’s classic school stories, in which Jennings and his loyal friend Darbishire build a hut, lose a goldfish, smash a cucumber frame, and embarrass the Headmaster in front of the school’s most distinguished Old Boy.

Info here Thanks to Simon for the shedsup.

Welcome Sheddie, this blog is about sheds! You can share your shed, or view other people's sheds. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed.

BBC Southern Counties Radio likes sheds

I was on the Afternoon Show with DJ Joe Talbot over at BBC Southern Counties Radio.

Talking about sheds of course, hopefully we can get a few more sheddies from the Surrey and Sussex areas.

I was surprised to be asked, as the I thought the shedwagon for Shed week would not start until next month, but the show was looking at British-ness and they immediately though of sheds! which are very British!, but of course we welcome sheddies from all over the world here on readersheds.co.uk

The BBC coming of age with sheds

I love sitcom,“ says 19 year old writer Tim Dawson. “So why isn’t there a show that talks about life from my perspective? That talks about being young – openly, honestly, truthfully. And I mean properly young – a teenager. Loving for the first time, turning cans into bongs, fancying your history teacher, dealing with those pesky unwanted erections-in-public places? Well - now there is.”

is he talking about garden shed in the last line I have never heard a garden shed called an unwanted erection in public ;) anyway its all about a new BBC sitcom.

Coming of Age is a world first for TV comedy – a sitcom about teenagers created and written by a teenager.

Jas, Ollie, Matt, Chloe and DK live in Abingdon. Their lives revolve around college, their bedrooms and, because they are always getting thrown out of the local pub, Ollie’s garden shed.

So sounds like the garden shed is a cross generation wossname, as we all like a drink in the shed.

If anyone is going to the recordings, make sure you take some photos of the shed.

Get on down, it’s the disco shed, innit

One of our sheddies sheds, the unique Discoshed, is following in the footsteps of us with some ShedLove on BBC radio.

The owner and sheddie Patrick, is being interviewed on the Steve Lamacq Show on Radio 6 tonight, maybe about Disco maybe about sheds, I dont’ know, but worth a listen.

Excuse the odd headline, but I’m not really down with the young people, but 6music is quite good as there is a mix of old and new and other stuff but not many TOGS.

Hopefully Patrick will mention Shed week! as Iam sure Lamacq has a shed, well most of these trend setters have ;)
Of course you can probably book the discoshed.com team for your wedding, festival, divorce etc, with or without shed, but to be honest having a Disco at your wedding would not be the same as DiscoSHED….

Radio 1, the Beeny and her love of sheds

I have had lots of emails from people, to say that Sheddies favorite Sarah Beeny was on the Scott Mills show today on the National Radio 1, talking about her many assets and her love of sheds, we all know that Sarah loves here sheds, that’s why she is one of the Shed judges from this Year’s shed of the year.. but its great that she is telling the world about it as well, great publicity for Shed week and readersheds, many thanks Beeny we can’t buy publicity like that! (the shed mug is in the post!)

Beeny on the radio

The first guest and property expert, Sarah Beeny, talks about possible reasons why people watch her show, other than for building advice!

Sarah also talked about her love of sheds

We had had 5 new sheds since the show was aired, and hopefully we will get a lot more, it’s great that the younger sheddi are realizing that Sheds are great spaces and not just places for storing your garden tools and adult magazines.

you can listen again using the power of the interweb here.

How many sheds can you build with this?

I saw the timber planks washed up on Worthing beach on the weekend on the telly.

timber on worthing beach

It got me wondering, was there not a wood shortage recently where the companies were saying that fencing pricing would go up, due to the lack of wood.. but now they are reporting that this washed up wood will be sold whoelsale., I do hope it’s been treated !!

Where was it due to be shipped to as I’m sure our shed industry could have done with it.

the telegraph gives this details on the cargo.

The vessel shed more than 2,000 tons of her 5,260-ton timber cargo. An exclusion zone is now in place around the ship, off Portland Bill.

The 33ft lengths of sawn wood were put on board in bundles, but sea conditions broke many of them apart.

Are you a sheddie in the Black Country?

Well BBC WM are looking for you, to chat about your personal space, so if you are a sheddie in your early 50s and a women (so 1 out of 3 for me, does not count) then they would love to hear from you..!

Hello, I’m Bernadette Shortt, I work on lifestyle features for a mid morning programme on BBC WM, the local radio station for Birmingham and the Black Country.

In the office we have been discussing where people go if they need personal space? My immediate thought was sheds!

I’m looking for people in their early 50s, ideally women, from the West Midlands who can talk us through why they need this little retreat? I don’t have a particular date in mind but we broadcast Monday to Fridays between 10am and 1pm. If anyone is interested then please call me on 0121 567 6029.

good luck

Fork handles makes £48,500

Of course it’s the Fork handles script, written by Ronnie barker, as the BBC reports.
fork handles?

The original script for the classic Two Ronnies Fork Handles sketch has been sold at auction for £48,500.

The sketch, written by the late Ronnie Barker, sees the comedian trying to buy fork handles and being offered four candles by shopkeeper Ronnie Corbett.

The oneshow sheds

Been away from the shedworld for a few days..

anyway the Beeb’s One show has the the videos up on their website.. they are in Realvideo format and the shed firewall does not allow me to see them, so will have to take a look later.

At least last years Shed of the year winner, Tony with his roman temple  is featured.

But alas no link to their source of the sheddies sheds.

The One show - sheds tonight

AS we have wossnamed before the BBC One show is doing a thing about sheds and it’s on tonight, so this is reminder!

After touring the country examining the British love affair with the lawns, John Sergeant returns with a new search; to find the reason behind our other very British passion for the humble shed.

of course regular readers of this and the readersheds site, will know that they are far from humble, I think Tony of the Roman temple and of course Shed of the Year 2007 is on there, so keep an eye out.
