Amazing Spaces Shed of the year 2017 Episode three The winners

TEAM UNLIMBITED AND THE LETSBY AVENUE POLICE STATION ARE THE

THIRD WAVE OF CUPRINOL SHED OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

  • This week’s episode unveils the winning sheds in the Workshop & Studio and Historic categories
  • Category winners are being revealed each week on Channel 4’s four-part series ‘Amazing Spaces Shed of the Year’
  • The two winners are now in the running to be crowned Cuprinol Shed of the Year 2017

The HQ of Team Unlimbited who help change the lives of children born with just one arm and a 1940s Civilian Police Station have been selected as the third category winners in the 2017 Cuprinol Shed of the Year Competition.

The winners were revealed last night in the third episode of the annual competition, following a record breaking 26,671 public votes.

Beating off tough competition in the Workshop & Studio category, Stephen Davies’s Team Unlimbited Shed is the heart of their charitable business. The shed is where they design, print, build and deliver 3D printed hands and arms to children across the world.

The company was set up after Stephen noticed the huge number of children that had no access, poor choice, or were unable to afford an artificial arm. Team Unlimbited is a completely self-funded business and helps children from all around the world, from Peru to Pakistan, Turkey, Brazil, Chile, Uganda, USA, Egypt, UK and the USA. All from this unobtrusive little shed, sat in an unassuming garden, in a small village, nestled in South Wales.

Taking home the prize in the Historic category is Barry Anscomb-Moon’s Letsby Avenue Police Station, a 1940s living history display. Barry tours the station, which is built on the back of a trailer, to historical events across the country, where the public are invited inside to learn all about policing during WW2. Full of original equipment, posters and paperwork the station really is a step back in time!

Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director at Cuprinol said: “We love to see how creative people are with their sheds and it’s always good to see some of the amazing work that comes out of their garden space. It’s astonishing to think that the competition is now in its tenth year and the entries this year are some of the best we’ve ever had.”

The two winning sheds were announced last night by George Clarke on Channel 4’s hit series ‘Amazing Spaces Shed of the Year’, produced by Plum Pictures and sponsored by Cuprinol. Category winners are being announced during each episode of the four-part series, with the final winner being announced in the last episode in September.

Team Unlimbited and Letsby Avenue Police Station have now secured their place in the final which will see them up against six other category winners in a battle to be crowned Cuprinol Shed of the Year 2017.

Best Workshop & Studio Winner, Stephen Davies said: “After many years of hard work and helping children across the world, it is an amazing achievement to be awarded the winner of the Workshop & Studio category. It just goes to show what can be achieved at the bottom of your garden!”

Best Historic Winner, Barry Anscomb-Moon said: “Being awarded the winner of the Historic category is a momentous moment for us, and we’re so thrilled to be able to share the secrets of wartime policing with even more people through the competition!”

The overall winner will be decided by a panel of shed experts including the founder of the competition Uncle Wilco (Andrew Wilcox), last year’s winner Walter Micklethwait, George Clarke and his expert team; craftsman William Hardie, architect Laura Clark and industrial designer Max McMurdo.

Marianne Shillingford, continued: “We’re looking forward to revealing the overall winner as the finalists have been so strong – it was a difficult year for the judges to choose!”

For those feeling inspired by last night’s show, blogger Lucy Davidson will be recreating the Pullman Shed, which was shortlisted in the Workshop category, and documenting the process on her blog.

Next week’s episode, airing Sunday 17th September will reveal the winners of the final two categories, as well as the overall winner for this year’s competition.

The winner will receive £1,000 courtesy of sponsors Cuprinol along with a wooden plaque, £100 worth of Cuprinol products and a giant crown for their shed.
