The sound of music – from the garden shed

If you have been following shed of the year for a while you will be of course be aware of the excellent work Jon from 2011 Shed of the year winner Songs from the Shed has been doing.

Passenger – Dancing In The Dark – Bruce Springsteen cover – Songs From The Shed

Mad Dog Mcrea – Am I Drinking Enough – Songs From The Shed Session

So I thought I would look at some of the other musical sheddies out there.

One of last years finalists was Folk in a Box

Folk in a Box - Howard Mills

Designed specifically for one-on-one musical performances, Folk in a Box has been presented at the Venice Biennale and Sydney Festival as well as many music and arts festivals around the UK.

and of course no list about music sheds would be complete without the infamous – “Slimmer, taller, happier, better constructed. The scourge of Oxford City Council noise-prevention officers ”

DISCO SHED MKII

Disco Shed mkII - Paddy Bickerton & Aidan Larkin - Secret cotswold hideaway

A favourite of mine from a few years back  was originally a shiplap 4’x6′ with the front opening fully. The outside is covered in strips of mostly floral fabric, the inside is covered in denim
SONG SHED

Song Shed - Elena Thomas (and Dan Whitehouse) - Stourbridge and mobile!

If a bit of dance music is more your thing then sheddie FROG N CAT has it in spades

Frog n cat - Mr (fnc) frogncat - Desborough Northants

but if some singer songwriter vibe is what you are after then pop along to SNIPPET TOWERS

Snippet towers - Johnno Casson - Colchester

And this year we have two new music sheddies entered for Shed of the year 2015 – one a record collectors dream shed , MARRS PLECTRUM RECORDS

Marrs Plectrum Records - Matthew Hawton - Garden

For years Peterborough hasn’t had a proper old fashioned record shop. I love vinyl and had an used shed. Marrs Plectrum Records was the inevitable conclusion

The other SHEDPOP HQ who’s purpose is “Our shed is special as it is constantly changing and hosts our concept of music we call shedpop.

Shedpop HQ - David Addington - Long Eaton,

It is primarliy a place of music, but also doubles as a spiritual haven and shamanistic kind of hut”

So if you hear some sounds from the bottom of the garden then – wait a minute it may be the next big thing
