“Shed of the year” is going to be a Channel 4 TV programme with George Clarke

You may have heard that “Shed of the year” is going to be a TV programme – channel 4 has commissioned a show – with Shed of the year judge George Clarke at the helm – this means that the final judging will be done for the telly show and include myself,  last years winner Alex, George and his amazing spaces colleagues Will Hardie, Max McMurdo and Laura Clark.

So you now have until 26th May 2014 to get your shed entered for this years competition.

George and his team will be filming a selection of sheddies in the coming month to get some background on why you lot create your own little or big sanctuaries – of course it’s going to be all about you sheddies – We are all interested in the story behind your shed – and you never know I may tag along as an extra.

Anyway here are the details from our lovely sponsor Cuprinol.

The annual Shed of the Year competition sponsored by Cuprinol has extended the entry deadline to 26th May 2014 as a three-part TV series starring Amazing Spaces George Clarke is announced. ‘Sheddies’ up and down the country will be given an extra two weeks to enter their shed at readershed.co.uk for a chance to be crowned Shed of the Year sponsored by Cuprinol and appear on the Channel 4 TV series.

The Shed of the Year competition sponsored by Cuprinol is the brainchild of shed-fanatic and Head Sheddie Uncle Wilco (Andrew Wilcox), who launched the nationwide competition to celebrate the best of British sheds in 2007.

Uncle Wilco will be guiding George Clarke and his expert team including craftsman William Hardie, architect Laura Clark and industrial designer Max McMurdo around the nation to uncover some of this year’s wacky and wonderful sheds entries. They will visit sheds from each of the eight categories which include Eco, Normal, Summerhouse, Tardis, Garden Office, Pub, Unique and Workshop.

This year’s entrants include Jack Sparrow House, an enchanting shed designed for fairies and pixies made from recycled materials and cedar wood shingles, a Moroccan Riad, The Home Office (Without Teresa May) which boasts a grass roof, sheep’s wool insulation and a wood burning stove and several pub sheds including The Golden Pheasant Lodge with a bar top built from Douglas fir.

The series, produced by Plum Pictures, will culminate in judges consisting of George Clarke, William Hardie, Laura Clark, Max McMurdo, founder Uncle Wilco and last year’s winner Alex Holland making the extremely tough decision on who will be crowned the overall winner of Shed of the Year 2014. As well as the prestigious title, the winner will receive £1,000 from sponsors Cuprinol plus an additional £100 worth of Cuprinol products, a winner’s plaque and a crown for their shed.

Kathryn Ledson, Senior Marketing Manager for Cuprinol, comments: “We’re incredibly proud to sponsor the Shed of the Year competition for the fourth year in a row. The three-part Channel 4 series, will further build the profile of the competition and showcase some of the fabulous entries we see each year. At Cuprinol we love the idea of people cheering up their shed and we encourage people to get creative with their outside spaces. Our Shed of the Year competition celebrates exactly that. If you think your shed has what it takes to be crowned the Shed the Year 2014, you can enter it into the competition via www.readersheds.co.uk by 26th May.”

Uncle Wilco, Founder of Shed of the Year comments: “I started the Shed of the Year competition as I’ve always been passionate about sheds. It’s been fantastic to see just how much it’s grown over the past eight years – now attracting over 2,000 entries. The new Channel 4 TV series will be a great way to show off the best of Britain’s sheds and their wonderful owners, otherwise known as ‘sheddies’.”
