Famous Sheddies – Marie Curie

I was grazing the interweb today and found this Post about inventors killed by their inventions, ok not very cheery and don’t ask how I found it… thats the power of the web.

Anyway it says that Marie Curie died due to the radiation in her shed without any safety

The damaging effects of ionizing radiation were then not yet known, and much of her work had been carried out in a shed without any safety measures. She had carried test tubes containing radioactive isotopes in her pocket and stored them in her desk drawer, remarking on the pretty blue-green light that the substances gave off in the dark.

of course now her name carries on with the Marie Curie Cancer Care
