Paul Smith creates the “definitive” garden shed

I thought I would investigate more.

Shame I’m not going to London but would have loved to see this.

When Sir Terence Conran asked Sir Paul Smith the question, “What have you always wanted for your home but have never found?”, his mind was immediately drawn to a garden shed. Answering his wishes, Paul was invited by the American Hardwood Export Council and Conran’s furniture company, Benchmark, to work with a designer of his choosing to make the dream a reality.

Measuring three metres by three metres, the shed has the same dimensions as Paul’s first ever shop in Nottingham. Inspired by Luis Barragán’s angular style of architecture the shed is complete with a panelled glass wall. Additionally, as with George Bernard Shaw’s famous writing hut, it sits on a revolving platform, allowing for perennial sun-chasing and making it the perfect room with a view. The shed will be presented at the V&A during the London Design Festival in September.
