THE return of the traditional beach hut is not too far away as redevelopment work by Newcastle-based Ian Darby Partnership (IDP) on the Blyth Beach promenade nears completion.

Blyth Valley Borough Council appointed the architect last year to develop an attraction to benefit the local community as well as attract more tourists to the area.

Led by partner Keith Dillon, IDP came up with a design for the development of 20 beach huts, which measure 2.5 by 3.5 metres, feature grass roofs as well as their own wind turbines and are capable of generating enough energy to run the lights and electricity supply.
