Shed week : Celebrity sheddie

Shed of the year has been announced. Welcome Sheddie, this blog is about sheds! You can share your shed, or view other people's sheds. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed.

One of the ideas I’m thinking about is having a Celebrity shed section

I’m aware of a few celebrities who are shed fans, but of course will have to try and contact them over the coming months.

So if you know of any celebrity sheddi, please post them here, does not matter if they are A list or Shed list

Today’s Weather in Rome - mainly sheddie

Tony of Roman shed fame and Shed of the Year winner 2007, had a visit from ITV Meridian (Southern area) weather man (Simon Parkin) in toga yesterday, to do the 6 o’clock report last night.

More a case of Rain in Rome than Reading.

Simon Parkin

thanks to Tony for the picture

Shedcall: Can you beat Tony’s roman temple

i love sheds

As we are getting more press attention, I’m making a call to all those people out there that have a shed and have not put it on the site yet, why not share it? we welcome Normal sheds, garden offices, unique sheds, in fact if you think its a shed then share it! plus it could be up for shed of the year 2008!

thanks wilco

Yesterdays news today

Further to my post about the nationals, Today’s Daily Express does a wonderful piece on Tony and mentions some other sheddies on Page 3, but they do put my real name :(  plus the Daily Star fits us in between big brother and ladies without any clothes.. at least I can get away with having a copy of the Daily Star hanging round my shed, now.

It’s still shed week? well in fleet street it is!

Today I have had phone calls from three separate national newspapers asking about shed week and of course Tony’s Roman shed, the winner.

Hopefully they will write up a good piece to promote shedism and that would help Shed week 2008 next year.

If you are in the Press then read this for info about the Shed of the Year 2007 which has passed on the great shed in the sky

Garden Office of the Year - interview

Alex over at shedworking has got an interview with the winner of the garden office category from this years shed of the year, Alan with his troopers den.

Sarah Beeny - You want her in your shed

The beeny - shed bless herThe votes have been wossnamed and the Winner is Sarah Beeny

Well not much surprise there as most of us would love to show “the Beeny” around our sheds.

I was a bit shocked that Diarmiud beat me at the last minute, but that would have made my head too big for my shed.

Chris Evans and Angelina were joint 5th but just beaten by “someone else”, and I suppose Brad Pitt is not know for his love of sheds, as he came last, but maybe Bradelina should share their for Shed of the Year 2008!!

Here are the results to our vote (including the votes taken from shedworking.co.uk)

Sarah Beeny 40%
Diarmuid Gavin 18 %
Uncle Wilco 15 %
Someone else 10 %
Angelina Jolie 8%
Chris Evans 8%
Brad Pitt 2 %

Sarah will be getting something nice from the shed as a prize, and maybe a tshirt for all her support - of shedweek!.

What people are saying about Shed week

update

I have been trying to get Chris Evans to announce the shed winner on his show, as they were big shed fans beforehand and it would get a wider audience for your sheds, but not getting any response, maybe you the sheddie can let him know!

Shed of the Year winner announced

Is it a Tardis? Is it a DIY garden office? Is it a mock Roman Temple?

Shedowners around the world have been on tenterhooks this week as the final round of judging forthe jewel in the shed of National Shed Week - the Shed of the Year competition - has come to a triumphant conclusion.

There was a huge public response to the competition with more than 4,000 votes for over 700 entries in 16 categories, the winners in each category going forward to the grand final.

The winner was chosen by a panel of judges that including television property guru, “shed champion” and sheddie’s favourite Sarah Beeny. “Shed of the Year is a great excuse to wallow in the gorgeousness of all our sheds,” said Sarah, “and aren’t they all fine!”

Sarah is also one of the hot favourites to top our public poll: ‘Who would you like to show around your shed?’ Results of this online vote will be announced on Thursday 5th July.

And now for the news you have all been waiting for: The Winner of Shed of the Year 2007 is

Tony’s Roman temple in leafy Berkshire

Tony describes his shed: “The Roman Temple is a Folly. All the best stately homes can look across their estate and see a temple in the distance. It’s just that this one is a bit nearer to the house, that’s all !” and tony describes himself as Young at heart, semi-retired electronics engineer living in Reading.

“Tony has done what most sheddies would love to do, turn their normal garden shed into a unique building that’s not afraid to stand out from the usual shed crowd,” says Uncle Wilco, head sheddie of readersheds.co.uk

The runners up where

2nd Place Time Girls tardis and in 3rd place the Shed owned by John Hutchinson

Organised by Uncle Wilco from the world-famous www.readersheds.co.uk web site, with help from Alex Johnson, editor of The Shed magazine and www.shedworking.co.uk, the first National Shed Week has been a major success with features in a range of titles including Wales on Sunday, Weekly News, Pink News, Glasgow Evening Times, The Daily Telegraph, Enterprise Nation, and The Gardening Website.

The BBC has got right behind National Shed Week with a major piece on Radio 4’s Women’s Hour and backing from Chris Evans on his Radio 2 show, as well as impressive regional coverage around the country.

National Shed Week also received plenty of international coverage, especially online, from sites such as green lifestyle specialists Treehugger.com as well as the Belleville News newspaper in Illinois where a local resident entered her shed in the competition.

National Shed Week has been sponsored this year by Taylors Garden Buildings

Shed week on Women’s Hour

Shed week gets a mention today on BBC Women’s Hour, not listened to it yet (as firewall issues in the shed), but you can here, this is what they say. So if the Beeb recons that Shed Week is a valid part of British life, then may can’t the government..

Celebrating National Shed Week with artists from Northumberland.

Sheds have long been the domain of men - dark places full of old engine parts and evil smelling DIY products. However, in the last few years women have been quietly re-defining sheds, turning them into places to work, to create and to think. In National Shed Week, when all things shed-like are being celebrated up and down the country, Caroline Beck has been talking to a group of women artists from Northumberland about their sheds and why life without them would now be unthinkable.

We on readersheds have always been fan of lady sheddies, as their sheds are always that little bit different from the blokes eg Jazzy Lilly, Wendy , My friend Helen, And of course Patrica to name a few.

So come on ladies share your sheds! and show the blokes what’s what

Shed of the Year - category winners

I have given my view on each shed (not that counts for much!) Click the shed image to read about the shed

Many thanks to our sponsors, Walton Garden Buildings, Teacher Whisky and of course Alex from shedworking for spreading the word of the shed around and helping on the media interviews and general wossnames

The judges Sarah Beeny, Rico Daniels and Alex are now codgytating and I’m mainly drinking cider to calm my nerves ready for the announcment of the Shed of the Year, winner on Wednesday.
