Shed of the year winner - a few thanks

Shed of the year has been announced. Welcome Sheddie, this blog is about sheds! You can share your shed, or view other people's sheds. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed.

Tim the winner of Shed of the Year sent me a lovely email to say thanks but not only to me, it’s like an oscar speech! but much appreciated.

Tims winning shed

some thank yous;

Uncle Wilco for masterminding the whole wossaname and being forever on call if needed, and despite having to drag himself from his sick bed saw Shed week through to a successful conclusion despite the difficulties caused by my unintentional “vanishing act”

My fellow contestants especially those who reached the final and those in the pub class who didn’t. Your good wishes were much appreciated.

There were quite a few who I thought could beat me and I could not have grumbled had I lost to many of you. I hope I can prove to be a worthy winner and uphold the honour of the pub class and sheds in general until I am relieved of the title next year.

I have no intention to try again but I hope the rugby pub will inspire even more and better entrants next year.

Deborah Dee the magazine journalist who saw the rugby pub on the website, liked it , commented that it had a “wow factor” and then wrote an article for the co-op magazine (printed circa 1.4 million, circulated to membership circa 500,000). The article came out while the votes were being taken and no doubt made a considerable difference to the voting, although I was canvassing hard as well. What about Deborah for the judging panel next year?

The many friends and supporters who have voted tirelessly whenever possible.

The other people I emailed who have no interest in sheds or the competition but who receive canvassing emails from me just the same My relatives who have never stopped encouraging me

The worthy sponsors Gardenbuildingsdirect, who I am looking forward to hearing from next week!

Tony from last years Roman Temple and the other very worthy judges who said such nice things about my shed

And finally ( I hope I have not left any one out) My wife who has to put up with all my eccentricities but who definitely is allowed in the shed

Shed Week: Shed of the year 2008 Announced

I am very pleased to announce that this years Shed of the year 2008 is wonderful Pub Shed “The rugby pub” owned by Tim from Sudbury in Suffolk

To view more great images of Tim’s Shed click here.

Designed and built by owner, with eight roof lights in octagonal roof, pair of double doors opening as one entrance in fine weather, 15′ fully fitted bar with additional door behind and storage under including 3 fridges, blinds to windows and roof lights, ceiling fan, sink with cold running water, comfortably furnished with sea grass matting floor, Hammock. No phone, no TV ,no interruptions ,no shortage of liquid refreshment

It’s the perfect Man shed but he does let the wife and his friends in for a drink.

What our judges said.

“what a inspiring bunch of sheds this year, congratulations to the winner, let me know when England are playing next” Sarah Beeny

This looks like great fun, and those trapezoidal windows in the roof! not an easy thing to do, and the builder provided the best description. Great job, I want to have a drink there. - Lloyd Alter (treehugger)

Like the ceiling fan idea. If I had a shed like this with a bar in it I’d never leave. - Tony (Last years shed of the year winner)

“Pubs and sheds. It feels like there’s a natural link between them, two of the world’s greatest building concepts which are far more than the bricks and mortar (or timber and felt) from which they’re constructed. As soon as you step inside a great shed, you immediately have a warm and comfortable sensation, and that’s exactly how you should feel in a great pub too. Bring the two together and - BINGO! - you’ve got a very worthy winner indeed.” - Alex from Shedworking

I would like to thanks everyone involved this year for Shed of the year 2008, the judges, the main sponsors - Garden Buildings Direct, our other sponsors - the “cheese shed” and “Make mine a builders tea” and of course the biggest thanks go to all the sheddies who took part, without you readersheds.co.uk is nothing.

It was a close vote in the end with the following wonderful sheds behind Tim

The Plot Thickens
Gar-Den

then closely followed by
Green Gables

all the finalists are here.

Look out for the international shed of the year and our photo competition winners later in the week.

We will hopefully announce the Winner of Shed of the Year 2008 on Tuesday 8th July

Slow sheds - maybe we need to travel in time & space

We have been picked up by Cory Doctorow over at Boingboing.

So you may experience some slowness when voting for your favorite shed, unless you are voting from another time and dimension.

Their readers are fans of sci-fi and other geeky things so I recommended the TARDIS sheds to them, but remember of course you can vote for all sheds, not just the TARDIS, and have until the 4th July 2008, Shed Independence day.

Shed of the year - Get your votes in

The votes have been counted, view the category winners here.

Just looking at the backend voting system and some sheds are getting less votes compared to the other category’s, they are Others, Cabin, garage, and oddly enough Tardis so get voting NOW (until 4th July), tell your friends, family post it on your blogs/forums etc to vote for your shed.

I would love to give you a running total (we have had over 1000 votes so far) but don’t want to spoil the surprise, just to say that the shed in the following categorys Pub Sheds, Normal and are very close in terms of votes the top 3 sheds have in both categorys… of course using the power of maths I will publicise the top shed in each category for the judges to vote for, to win the coveted title of Shed of the year 2008 (of course brought to you by gardenbuildingsdirect)

Just Sheds : What the shed?

With only a few more days left to Vote for your favourite Shed (closed 4th July) I thought I would do a quick roundup of some ones that you would say “What a shed” when you see it, these may have been covered before, but give me my indulgence, I have a cold/sore throat and not feeling too good, must be shedmanflu.

What with the ongoing popularity of sheds used for working from home (I think Alex calls it this), some are off the shelf and quite expensive some are created by the sheddie with the normal blood sweat and wossnames that any shed build no matter what it’s purpose.

Here are some great sheds, that I would love to run my shed empire from.

Just sheds : notquitefini-SHED

A great shed that’s not finished but has some great possibilities.

Made from recycled tin and wood. Built on ’stilts’ into the sloping site to minimise the shed’s footprint enabling wildlife to colonise underneath

notquitefini-SHED

A little hideaway to while away those lazy summer days, complete with integral workbench, tool store and bits ‘n’ bobs to encourage ‘tinkering’ and ‘pottering’.

Some more images after the click.

Entry to Shed of the year extended

Due to some feedback from sheddies and potential sheddies and the british weather (as the sheddi can’t get out to photo their sheds in all their glory!)

I have extended the deadline for entry to this years Shed of the year competition, you can now add your shed right up until Sunday June 8th.

and then you will hopefully be able to start voting for your favourite sheds from Monday 9th June.
