Last night as it was valentines day, me and Mrs Uncle Wilco had an evening out at a jig, yes a jig not a gig.

We went to see Folk band Celtish, It’s not normally my cup of tea (but i do like Rock with roots), but you have to make wossnames for the other half.

Anyway I really enjoyed it (must be my age and folk jumpers and the Tull overtones), the Flute and the Fiddle player were brilliant and the rest of the band, a great singer with Stevie Nicks overtones, wonderful guitar man and the unique sound of the harp added to the tight group.

With the mix of contemporary folk and wossnames of standards, it really worked, the audience were very appreciative for the 2 or so hours and they sold OSB in bottles halftime, so result!

The surroundings helped, it was at the Norwegian Church down Cardiff Bay, a small venue but very suitable for this sort of thing.

I would definitely see them again, the banter with the audience worked well (apart from an odd women who kept shouting out stuff) , and event the Flutists young daughter shouting from the balcony added to the cozy and great night.

Alex who always comes up with new ideas on the shedworking/living front, has started a new weekly post called Thursday Outhouses . A great idea or those interested into that smelly genre of sheds!

He points to a website called Sewerhistory.org, which has a great collection of outhouses/privies/bogs/whatever

The site has been an ongoing 15-year project by Jon Schladweiler, Historian of the Arizona Water & Pollution Control Association, and I thought I was obsessive about sheds!

The site also has a great history about worldwide sewer systems including our good old British system.

I do’nt think I will delve any deeper into that genre but of course if you have converted your old outhouse into a shed then please share it.

Of course even Mrs Uncle Wilco could not get away with that.

But what with valetines day coming soon, and you do have to put a bit of effort in nowerdays, the fish supper and bottle of cheap plonk, just does not cut the wossname.

but I saw this and thought how cheesy, but then i thought how shedmantic and probaly better than carving up a tree or a shed for that matter.

If like me you like a bit of pickle, you may be shocked to hear that the makers of Branston, are producing a cyber/terminator type jar, maybe, that tells you how old your pickle is?

Branston pickle will carry a smart label to help consumers tell if the product is still fresh enough to eat. Premier Foods will launch the Timestrip labels on pots of Branston Original for a trial period.
Shoppers press a lid-top button to activate the label when they first open the jar.
A red line slowly creeps up the label over a period of six months to indicate how many weeks the product has been in use.

Well I’m not sure if I like my food telling me when I can’t eat it, and I thought pickles last for ever, well the ones I have eaten seem to create new life forms every few years… but I suppose they had lots of consumer reserch and people said, No i don’t want a better, but cheaper product I want a gadget that reminds me to buy a new one?
