external cladding

Ideas Please!

I have a timber framed extension, that has cedar shiplap external cladding. The problem is that it looks poor compared to the rest of the rendered house, and it also makes the inside smell!

I would like to remove the cladding and replace it with something that would match the house. I have tried to find someone that stocks a board to render, with little luck, and other pre finished boards seem too expensive.

Any ideas?

Hi Nigel

You could tack EML (expanded metal lath) to the frame and render that directly (not an easy job) or clad the frame with OSB and staple the EML to the OSB to give it a bit more substance.

If you can smell the cladding from the inside of the extension I'm guessing there isn't a vapour barrier on the inside of the frame?  Is it insulated?
