• If you love dates and sheds this is for you

Alex has already blogged about this as hes upto date with things as he probably uses a calendar!

The wonderful Luxury Shed Calendar 2009 has just launched, with great dates like next years Shed Week 2009 already penciled in (hint it’s 6th July 2009) but now our friends over at Transglobal Emporium have come along with a one off that may offend the more gentile sheddie.

    The Luxury Skip Calendar 2009

Introducing an all new guest calendar for 2009, the Luxury Skip Calendar 2009! A humourous observation of 12 Skips on location, captured within a Luxury Calendar. Ideal for anyone in the building trade as well as for the neighbour with a skip parked in their front garden for weeks! This unique calendar has got to be another world first!

Keep any eye out on this here shedblog for a chance to win a copy of the Luxury Shed Calendar 2009 and maybe something else very soon.

Shed of the year has been announced. Welcome Sheddie, this blog is about sheds! You can share your shed, or view other people's sheds. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed.

How do you enter shed of the year 2009?

People are asking me (ok one email, but that’s enough to do a post) Wilco how do I get my shed entered into the Shed of the year 2009 competition, it’s simple really, but of course I don’t make it easy to find.

    • You just need to “share your shed” here
    • Add some info about your shed, choose a category plus add at least 2 images (external and internal)

the system works better if you resize the images beforehand, to around 600/700 pixels wide, as my bandwidth is not free you know!!

If you don’t add a minimum of two images, then it wont be counted for entry to Shed of the year, so get your camera’s out.

many thanks, I hope we get some great sheds this year, as each year the standard goes through the shed roof..

Shed of the year winner - a few thanks

Tim the winner of Shed of the Year sent me a lovely email to say thanks but not only to me, it’s like an oscar speech! but much appreciated.

    Tims winning shed

    some thank yous;

Uncle Wilco for masterminding the whole wossaname and being forever on call if needed, and despite having to drag himself from his sick bed saw Shed week through to a successful conclusion despite the difficulties caused by my unintentional “vanishing act”

My fellow contestants especially those who reached the final and those in the pub class who didn’t. Your good wishes were much appreciated.

There were quite a few who I thought could beat me and I could not have grumbled had I lost to many of you. I hope I can prove to be a worthy winner and uphold the honour of the pub class and sheds in general until I am relieved of the title next year.

I have no intention to try again but I hope the rugby pub will inspire even more and better entrants next year.

Deborah Dee the magazine journalist who saw the rugby pub on the website, liked it , commented that it had a “wow factor” and then wrote an article for the co-op magazine (printed circa 1.4 million, circulated to membership circa 500,000). The article came out while the votes were being taken and no doubt made a considerable difference to the voting, although I was canvassing hard as well. What about Deborah for the judging panel next year?

The many friends and supporters who have voted tirelessly whenever possible.

The other people I emailed who have no interest in sheds or the competition but who receive canvassing emails from me just the same My relatives who have never stopped encouraging me

The worthy sponsors Gardenbuildingsdirect, who I am looking forward to hearing from next week!

Tony from last years Roman Temple and the other very worthy judges who said such nice things about my shed

And finally ( I hope I have not left any one out) My wife who has to put up with all my eccentricities but who definitely is allowed in the shed

Shed Categories for Shed of the year 2009

Right, sheddies, one of the confusing thing (and there was many) about Shed of the Year 2008 was which category to put your shed into.

I have currently set up the following categories for shed entry for the 2009 compo.

    Normal Shed
    Eco Shed (new for 2009)
    Garden Office
    Cabin
    Workshop
    Summerhouse
    Pub Shed
    Studio
    Tardis
    Hut
    Other

General wossname, says I should cut it down… so it’s easier to handle.

remember you also have the option of saying if your Shed is a UK shed (the default) or an International shed.

but I need your help! Its a deli-lama for me as I don’t want to trim the fat but its confusing to get the public to understand how the voting works (let alone the judges)

So please make your wossname felt here just comment.

Also if the sheddie does not add a minimum of two images (inside/out), then I wont show them on the site, do you agree with that?

    International shed of the year?

    Sorry for the delay.

    To be honest I can’t decide…

    My favorite is Tiki-hut

Alex’s favorite is the Eco Shed

so to prolong shed week! and just for some fun, as there is no international prize, tell us which your favorite International shed is in the comments if you are not shedded out.. You can view all the international sheddies (ie where the sheddie has said it’s not in the UK, when they shared them)

and I promise next year the International sheddies who put in as much effort as our UK sheds, will have a proper competition with judges and prizes.

Shed Week: So Long, and Thanks for All the Sheds

Well its not really over properly, I still need to announce International Shed of the Year on Tuesday, the prize fell through thats why the delay, been trying to source something for winner, so its just a title sorry:( but shed willing next year we will have a separate thing so that the intersheddies will have something nice to!

I am going away for few beers and a Bath and to get changed out of my I love sheds Tshirt.

I would like to give much thanks to the following who made Shed Week 2008 the best one yet Timand all the other sheddies, the judges Alex, Trevor, Sarah, Lloyd, Kathryn and Chris Evans for agreeing to be a judge next year ;) of course the sponsors Garden Building Direct, the guys who provided some sheddie prizes, the Cheese Shed and Makemineabuilders, and If you feel that Readersheds and Shed Week has given you a bit of shedlove this Year, then help us to make it work better next year.

You can start adding your shed for next year NOW, but they wont be live on the site until I have done some housekeeping next week.

Shed Week : We have a winner for the Flickr photo comp

Jame’s wonderful Potting Shed HDR has won our Shed week photo comp.

Taken in a place with no name
A high dynamic range picture of a local Ravenglass potting shed - why photograph a potting shed, why not, it was there and seemed like a good idea at the time.
With the increase in world food prices I suspect we will see more people turning to growing their own vegetables.

Shed Week: What the sheddies say about the winner

I could just point you to what the media say about Shed week and the great winner, but as you know this site is all about the sheds and the sheddies that build them, Tim has had some great comments from the sheddies of the site and from the public (who I hope will share their sheds as well).

Here is a selection from the comments page on his shed

I am utterly and completely in awe! What a marvelous sanctuary you’ve created. Many years of enjoyment to you! :-)
    by Karen V from NJ/US

Congratulations Tim, Your shed is a worthy winner of the Shed Of The Year 2008. I realise now that I was wrong all along when I built a Roman Temple - I should have built a Pub Shed instead. At least it wouldn’t be far to stagger home to bed after a few beers. Tony Rogers - Last year’s winner.

National Pub Shed of Year - totally deserved and on to the finals! Congratulations the beer will taste all the sweeter for it!
    by Duncan

This shed has a genuine ‘pub’ feel to it. With Tim on one side of the bar and me on the other, I really could not avoid asking the landlord for the same again!
    by Andrew-Moore

That’s a beautiful shed! I wish I had a house like that. Do you need a waitress?
    by Marie-laure

It’ s so beautiful and cozy that it made me SHED a tear! Wish we were there! (Do you take reservations for 2012 Olympics?)
    by Wendy S. NJ, USA

I think I am the only visitor who has ever asked for tea in this fabulous bar! I also recommend the mulled wine. Day or night, rain or shine, this shed is open for business-even if there is a torch or creative heating techniques necessary. In my opinion, there is no place more relaxing than spending time in this shed.

Shed Week: Shed Photo do we have a winner?

After many hours of wossname and pointing, I was going to announce the winner of our Flickr Shed Week photo competition today, but myself and Alex can’t decide which of these great shed photos should win.

So it’s up to you the readers to vote… below.
