What would you buy a sheddie who is very grumpy this birthday? Cake of course

This week is my 40th birthday (Iam sure I have not told you before ;)) I have been espscially grumpy and has Iam on a diet (of sorts) I really want a cake – and then it does not help when I see photos of shed cakes on Flickr.

Some of these great cakes are made by Sandra a cake decorator from Hertfordshire (not from a shed unfortunately)

I hope I do get a shed cake for my birthday – anyway enough about me – here some words from Sandra about her cakes!

I love creating bespoke cakes that have a personal meaning for their recipient. I am asked to recreate many things in cake and two of my recent commissions have featured sheds.

This cake was ordered by friends of the recipient for his birthday celebrations. I was told he was very proud of a shed he had recently built in his garden and one of his birthday gifts was to be a plaque for this shed, which would read ‘The Shed Wot Micky Built’. They thought it would be fun for the cake to have the same inscription.

I carved the shape from chocolate cake, covered it in fondant and added the detailing using various sugar craft tools.

A customer ordered this cake for her dad’s 75th birthday. He’s a very keen gardener and at her request I included a figure of him sitting on a bench in front of his shed.

As the cake was a 12″ square fruitcake (very heavy), I didn’t want to add more weight so I carved the shed from polystyrene. This was covered in fondant and detail added in the same way as before.

If you’d like to take a look at other cakes I have made here’s a link to my Flickr page.

Some great work and they all look very yummy.
