Sheddie Thomo is green roof of the month

Well not Sheddie Thomo, his Eco Shed rammed earth but he is always trying out new things..

And this time is he featured as Green Roof of the month on Green Roof training (Who’d had thought such a thing existed, only on the interwebs I suppose ;) )

Something’s Wrong with Abel – art for sheds sake?

I am not a big theater goer (Panto is my cerebral equal) but this sounds good (as it’s got sheds in, see easily pleased), but Mrs Uncle Wilco pointed me the direction of this play/theatre/indoor shed exploration.

“You probably know that Cain killed his brother. But you probably don’t know that Cain now lives in his shed on a council allotment. Or that he is regularly abducted and experimented on by Aliens or Angels (he’s not sure which). Night after night, alone on his roof-top, Cain defends us all from heavenly invaders. With all but a few of his Old Testament allies gone, this lonely Bible outcast is the last true champion of the human race.

The latest performance from the makers of Big Hands is full of humour, pathos and genuine weirdness. Original live music, poetic text and peculiar physicality flow through a surreal escalation of action, perpetually looping towards the most famous murder in western history. The show explores and “owns-up” to issues of rage, fear, jealousy and guilt. It also deals with the most powerful and sacred bond in the male world — that between a man and his shed.”

Anyway it’s on at Chapter arts centre in the Bohemian district of Cardiff know as Canton, (decent beer at chapter mind you)

Shed of the year 2010 judge : Alex Johnson – shedworking

I’m happy to announce that Shed ladies favorite and good guy of sheds, Alex is back as a judge, he is a good friend, a confident on shed matters and a nice bloke who’s pretty hot at snooker (so I am told)

I will be finally be meeting him (oh the joy of online world!) this November at the enterprise national conference, he owes me a cider anyway (or is it the other way round)

This is what he says about National Shed Week

National Shed Week is about a lot more than a roof and four (fairly waterproof) walls – it’s a celebration of invention, creativity and community.

But it’s also a perfect example of how social media can be used to bring together people from around the planet who share common interests. And this year, I believe NSW will underline its growing importance as it helps to campaign to save the internationally famous Bletchley Park huts.

as Alex notes Bletchley Park is the official charity for Shed Week, I know I go on about it, but it’s important, probably the most famous Huts in the world still need your help!

A bit about the man himself.

I’m the founder, editor and trainee tea boy at Shedworking.co.uk (Shedworking: The Alternative Workplace Revolution will be published by Frances Lincoln in June 2010).

When I’m not writing about garden offices, I’m a freelance journalist, part of the online team for The Independent, webmaster for Designerbreakfasts.com, regular contributor to Enterprisenation.com and editorial consultant for various national charities. I also blog about bookshelves at Bookshelf and about creative optimism at Thriving Too.

Having moved house recently, I’m currently ‘between garden offices’ and temporarily a cellarworker, but should be back shedworking in 2010.

Of course sheddies you can Share your Shed for entry into the Shed of the year competition at readersheds.co.uk

Shed Year 2010 Charity Bletchley Park gets some cash – more needed

The Beeb and others reports

Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire, the top secret code-breaking hub of World War II, has been awarded nearly £500,000 of lottery funds.

The development money from the Heritage Lottery Fund will help the historic site become a world heritage and educational centre.

It is the first step towards a target of £10m to completely revamp the site.

Carole Souter, chief executive of the Heritage Lottery Fund, said: “Bletchley Park is an extraordinary part of the UK’s heritage.

“The Heritage Lottery Fund’s initial support for the Trust’s restoration plans demonstrates our belief that Bletchley’s story should be much more widely known and appreciated.

“We also recognise the importance of preserving the site as a tribute to the men and women who worked there with quiet and tireless dedication during World War Two.

“Without their dedication, our nation’s history might have been a very different one.”

Well done to the team at #bpark Lets make it a trend on twitter (again) and get more cash for this important part of British (and world) history and heritage.

If you sheddies have any money raising ideas as of course Bletchley Park is our official charity for Shed Week 2010 involving enigma machines, sheds or funny hats then let me know (funny hats not needed)
