English asparagus went on sale today – several weeks earlier than usual, a retailer said.
The first batch of the seasonal vegetable was launched at a Tesco store in Evesham, Worcestershire.
It means a grower from the local area has broken the record for getting the first English asparagus onto shop shelves, according to the retailer.
Tesco said the asparagus would go on sale at a handful of its other Worcestershire branches this weekend.
