Shed of the Year judge - Kathryn Ferry - Beach hut expert
Welcome Sheddie, this blog is about sheds, we love sheds. You can share your shed, or view other people's sheds. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed or by Email, or read our past posts, or maybe you would like to buy a shed?
We have already introduced the inventor (Trevor Baylis) and the property guru (Sarah Beeny) as part of our crack team of sheddie judges. Now it’s time for the specialists:
Beach huts are such a part of British wossname, and we all love them
here on readersheds.co.uk, so I would like to introduce our Beach hut
expert for next years shed of the year 2008.
Kathryn Ferry
Dr Kathryn Ferry is an architectural historian with a passion for beach
huts. She works freelance as a writer and lecturer and is currently
completing her first book ‘Sheds on the Seashore: from bathing machines to beach huts’.
Kathryn has lost count of the number of beach huts she’s seen
in the UK and abroad but the figure is well over 20,000. As an expert on beach huts (she admits this is an unusual claim to fame!) Kathryn has given interviews to national newspapers and appeared on radio and TV, including on the first series of the BBC’s programme ‘Coast’.
In 2006 she was a member of the judging panel for ‘Bathing Beauties’, an international architectural competition to design a beach hut for the 21st century.
You can read more about Kathryn and see lots of great pictures of sheds by the sea at www.beach-huts.com
P.S We need more beach huts on readersheds.co.uk for Shed of the Year, so if you own, rent or cherish one, then please share it here, and put it under the Category HUT.
If you have a great shed that you want our sheddies to see, then please "Share it here" and add a few images. or Join our Flickr shed groupView the Shed of the year 2008 here.
