Tim the winner of Shed of the Year sent me a lovely email to say thanks but not only to me, it’s like an oscar speech! but much appreciated.

some thank yous;

Uncle Wilco for masterminding the whole wossaname and being forever on call if needed, and despite having to drag himself from his sick bed saw Shed week through to a successful conclusion despite the difficulties caused by my unintentional “vanishing act”

My fellow contestants especially those who reached the final and those in the pub class who didn’t. Your good wishes were much appreciated.

There were quite a few who I thought could beat me and I could not have grumbled had I lost to many of you. I hope I can prove to be a worthy winner and uphold the honour of the pub class and sheds in general until I am relieved of the title next year.

I have no intention to try again but I hope the rugby pub will inspire even more and better entrants next year.

Deborah Dee the magazine journalist who saw the rugby pub on the website, liked it , commented that it had a “wow factor” and then wrote an article for the co-op magazine (printed circa 1.4 million, circulated to membership circa 500,000). The article came out while the votes were being taken and no doubt made a considerable difference to the voting, although I was canvassing hard as well. What about Deborah for the judging panel next year?

The many friends and supporters who have voted tirelessly whenever possible.

The other people I emailed who have no interest in sheds or the competition but who receive canvassing emails from me just the same My relatives who have never stopped encouraging me

Right, sheddies, one of the confusing thing (and there was many) about Shed of the Year 2008 was which category to put your shed into.

I have currently set up the following categories for shed entry for the 2009 compo.

Normal Shed
Eco Shed (new for 2009)

Other

General wossname, says I should cut it down… so it’s easier to handle.

remember you also have the option of saying if your Shed is a UK shed (the default) or an International shed.

but I need your help! Its a deli-lama for me as I don’t want to trim the fat but its confusing to get the public to understand how the voting works (let alone the judges)

So please make your wossname felt here just comment.

Also if the sheddie does not add a minimum of two images (inside/out), then I wont show them on the site, do you agree with that?

The shed friendly Telegraph reports.

A beach hut at one of the Queen’s favourite seaside beauty spots is on the market for £45,000.

The hut, which has no mains electricity, gas or water and cannot sleep people overnight, is so expensive because it is the first one to come up for sale in more than five years at Holkham, Norfolk.

The Royal family had a hut in woodland overlooking the beach for around 70 years until it was burned down by vandals in 2003.

Prince Philip also liked to cook barbecues on the veranda of the Royal hut and sometimes slept overnight in its bunk beds.

But the Royals have visited less in recent years since a nearby section of the sandy beach was made an official nudists’ beach.

The latest hut is being sold by estate agents Belton Duffey.

Tim and his wife Kathleen are interviewed in their local paper the Suffolk Free Press

WHEN Tim and Kathleen McNeill have friends round for drinks they know the ideal place to entertain them…. the garden shed.

But this is no ordinary shed. Guests won’t be tripping over the mower or sitting on a sack of spuds, but relaxing on elegant sofas and sipping ice cool beers in the 2008 Shed of the Year.

Retired solicitor Tim designed and built the octagonal wood-clad shed around three years ago and kitted it out as a pub.

It has a fully-fitted bar, cane furniture, fridges, a ceiling fan, windows in the roof, a hammock, seagrass matting on the floor and double doors which open out onto the garden.

The former Sudbury rugby player entered the competition on the readerssheds.co.uk website after he was told about it by a friend.

The first of my Just sheds post after Shed Week, I may do them on Tuesday,Wednesday or Thursday, I will just surprise you.

This week a great Summerhouse called Wilfred Pendle’s Summerhouse

“This summer house was bought by my grandfather, Wilfred Pendle, sometime in
the 50s or early 60s and was situated in his garden in Witham in Essex. It
was used as a playroom by my sister and me (at one point it contained a pair
of BOAC aircraft seats, so it became a spaceship from time to time as
well…). In his later years, my grandfather would sit in it to enjoy the
afternoon sun. When he passed away, my parents decided they would move the
summer house to their garden in Bath. Although rather heavy, the
construction of the building is very simple. There are seven pieces: a
floor, one solid wall, two walls with windows, one with windows and double
doors, and a two-part pitched roof. The structure was so well designed, it
slots together, requiring only eight bolts to secure it.”

so to prolong shed week! and just for some fun, as there is no international prize, tell us which your favorite International shed is in the comments if you are not shedded out.. You can view all the international sheddies (ie where the sheddie has said it’s not in the UK, when they shared them)

and I promise next year the International sheddies who put in as much effort as our UK sheds, will have a proper competition with judges and prizes.

The Mirror reports in a NIB

A couple has put an end to fights about garden tools by building Two sheds.

Helen and Richard Appleton have even hung “his”and “hers” signs in their sheds in Sudbury, Suffolk, where the winner of Shed of the Year 2008 Tim is from.

Richard says “It’s provides me with solace” and Helen said “He has to ask to go into my shed, Of Course, I can enter his shed whenever I want”

One of the sheddies, Mark has his shed mentioned in the the Metro today

In times of marital stress, many husbands escape to the garden shed to tinker with some power tools.

But Martin Delaney has gone one better by building himself a pub in his timber palace, complete with flat-screen TV and dart board.

‘I’ve put a proper beer pump and cooling system in there for the perfect pint,’ said the 42-year-old.

‘The wife and daughter are allowed in sometimes.’

Mr Delaney, from Birmingham, took a year to build the shed with the help of his brother-in-law, Mike Southall.

He’s so proud of his den, he’s thinking of entering it in Shed of the Year.

‘I think mine has a good chance,’ he added.
